There are a number of archery sessions available at a Northumberland club.

The Border Reiver Archers hold their shooting practice at Ovingham Middle School on Sundays during the summer and shift indoors at Mowden Hall School during the winter.

The club runs three types of archery experiences.

First, the 'Have a Go' experience where individuals, regardless of their age, can try their hand at archery.

Participants can shoot five or eight arrows at the cost of £2 or £3 respectively.

This event usually takes place at the Belsay International Horse Trials and the Classic Car Gathering at Corbridge Rugby Club, and also at the club premises.

For a more comprehensive experience, the club offers 'Taster Sessions'. These hour-long sessions are aimed at individuals aged eight and above.

They cost £10 per person and need to be pre-booked.

The club prepares the required bows and arrows based on the bookings.

The sessions are a hit among individuals, couples, families, and groups, including W.I. clubs, Cubs, Corbridge Lions, work colleagues, and the ladies choir group.

The third offering from the club is a 'Beginner’s Course' for people who wish to take up archery as a hobby and join a club.

This course costs £60 and includes three sessions of three hours each, spread over three weeks.

After completing this course, participants can join any club recognised by the UK governing body, ArcheryGB.

In addition to these regular offerings, ArcheryGB promotes an annual event called ‘Start Archery Week' where clubs like Border Reiver Archers participate to spread the word about archery.

It gives everyone a chance to see, try, talk about, and appreciate the art of archery.

The club is enthusiastic about promoting this event and showing people what archery is all about.

This year, Start Archery Week begins this weekend and the Border Reiver Archers, based in Ovingham, are inviting all to come and try archery for free on Sundays, May 5 & 12.

The club will be offering free ‘Have a Go’ sessions between 11am and 2pm at the Ovingham Middle School sports field.

In addition to this, the club will also be providing an archery activity at the Belsay International Horse Trials at the end of May.

Mike Porter, the club secretary, said: "Archery is an inclusive activity and irrespective of a person’s fitness levels, can be a great way of getting into the fresh air and enjoying some activity."

To make a booking or enquiry the club can be reached by email at borderreiverarchers@yahoo.com or Dave can be contacted directly at 07505 975509.
