Northern Powergrid has partnered with Regen to launch a community energy grant scheme.

Northern Powergrid is responsible for the daily electric supply for eight million people spanning the North East, Yorkshire, and northern Lincolnshire.

The Net Zero Community Energy Fund has backed 17 community initiatives over the past two years.

The fund provides community energy groups and climate action groups with up to £10,000 per project, boasting a total of £50,000, available to either new or established organisations across the designated areas.

Over the years, projects such as community owned solar generation, community engagement on net zero, and local electricity trading, amongst others, have been supported.

Katie Privett, Northern Powergrid’s regional insights manager, said: "We’re proud to work in partnership with Regen to help local energy groups make a positive difference to communities across our region.

“The Net Zero Community Energy Fund provides vital funds to empower a thriving, connected and strong community energy sector; from setting up new energy groups, to installing solar panels, and replacing old boilers with efficient heat pumps which are now fit for the future."

Applications are open until July 15.
